NASA/courtesy of nasaimages.orgDid you happen to see the Perseid Meteor Showers Wednesday night, 8/12? That was the peak night. It was cloudy at my location so I missed it. But there will be more to come this year.
Just what is a meteor shower? Some people also call them shooting stars or falling stars. It is debris from comets consisting of ice and dust. They are named for the constellation from which they appear to fall.
Here is the peak schedule for the rest of the year:
Orionids-morning of Oct 12th-constellation Orion
Orionids-morning of Oct 12th-constellation Orion
Leonids-night of Nov 17th/morning of Nov 18th-constellation Leo
Geminids-nights of Dec 13th & 14th-constellation Gemini
For the best viewing, drive to a dark spot with no light pollution and look for the appropriate constellation. Eyes are the only equipment necessary. Enjoy the show!
